About the property
With its expansive gallery overlooking the river and majestic metal roof, Le Grand Bercail welcomes and brings people together. Positioned to take advantage of solar gain in winter and maximize views in every season, the gallery uses its wide eaves to reduce overheating during heatwaves. The delicacy of its placement among the trees and its palette inspired by northern tones gives it a natural beauty that feels like an obvious choice.
Designed to accommodate multiple families, the space is organized around a festive heart, featuring a double-height area that opens up to the living room and the landscape. At the far end, the kitchen offers a pleasant overview of the space. The living room nestles between a warm clay brick wall on the bedroom side and a glass-walled wooden partition on the dining room side. In a separate space for celebrating, the dining area offers views of the river and the town of La Malbaie. The walkway leads seamlessly to the veranda, gallery, and spa.
The bedrooms, grouped in two parent-child clusters, are located in a wing near the entrance. The mezzanine was designed as a retreat, providing access to a hidden bedroom-office in the attic, allowing for a peaceful escape. At the center of the gable wall, an impressive eight-foot diameter oculus lets in light that bathes the interiors.
Accessible via a closed staircase near the entrance, the garden level offers a paradise for the younger ones, with a small dormitory and a play area opening onto the wooded surroundings.
